MY Sports Club Story: Ryan

Jun 18, 2026

Meet Ryan, Vice President at NYSC. By day, Ryan is passionate about helping people improve their lives through fitness, but his latest challenge was a personal one. A proud dad of four girls, Ryan recently teamed up with his wife to take on HYROX Doubles in NYC, putting their training, teamwork, and determination to the test. Read more to see what it was like to cross the finish line together and why the experience meant so much to them.

Please tell us a little about your fitness journey.
I’ve worked out my entire life, but like many people, I lost consistency in my late 30s and early 40s. In January 2025, I made a commitment to get back on track, and over the past year I lost 30 pounds. The journey reminded me that it’s never too late to prioritize your health.

You recently raced HYROX NYC with your wife. How did you decide to race as a pair?
We met training crossfit together and have done competitions prior to having kids. HYROX gave us a shared goal to train for and another shot to see if we still got it.

What did your HYROX training look like?
We followed a structured 12-week program leading up to the race. Our weeks included interval running, HIIT workouts, strength training, and HYROX-specific compromised conditioning to prepare for race.

Why was it important to you both to race as a duo?
Fitness has always been something we enjoy together, and with our 10-year wedding anniversary in June, HYROX felt like the perfect way to celebrate. It was an opportunity to challenge ourselves while creating a memorable experience as a team.

What was the hardest part of your HYROX race?
I underestimated how difficult the later runs would be. Running has always been the weakest part of my training, and it definitely caught up with me as the race went on. It also showed me exactly where I need to improve, so I’ll be putting a much bigger emphasis on running before next year’s race.

What was your favorite part of race day?
The energy and atmosphere were incredible. From the music and spectators to the athletes pushing each other, it created an environment that made you want to give everything you had.

Did you have any fans cheering you on?
We were fortunate to have support from the NYSC Marketing and GEX teams. Having people there cheering us on made a huge difference, and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who came out to encourage us.

As a girl dad, what do you hope your girls learned from you and your wife’s racing experience?
With 4 daughters, I hope they learned that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to with hard work and consistency. More importantly, I want them to see that actions speak louder than words. As parents, we have the opportunity to lead by example and show them what commitment, resilience, and perseverance look like.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
HYROX was more than just a race, it was a reminder that growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone. Sharing that experience with my wife made it even more meaningful, and I hope it inspires our 4 daughters to embrace challenges, stay active, and never be afraid to chase big goals together.
