MY Sports Club Story: Mohamed

Jul 6, 2026

Meet Mohamed, a Personal Trainer at our Sunnyside location. From playing professional soccer to helping members reach their own fitness goals, Mohamed's journey has always been fueled by a passion for movement and performance. Learn how his athletic background shaped his approach to personal training, why he believes fitness is about more than just workouts, and what he's been excited for as the World Cup continues in the United States.

Please tell us a little about your fitness journey.
My fitness journey wasn't something I planned from the beginning. It started because I loved playing soccer. I began playing at 6 years old and eventually started playing professionally at 14. Through soccer fitness became a regular part of my life and I spent years learning about training, conditioning, recovery, and performance. As  I got older, I became interested in helping other people experience the same benefits that fitness gave me. That's what led me to become a personal trainer. Now I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds and helping them achieve goals that are important to them.

When did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer when I was 6 years old. I developed a passion for the game from a young age and spent countless hours training and competing. My dedication to the sport allowed me to begin playing professionally at 14, which taught me discipline, commitment, how to work professionally, and the value of hard work.

What do you love most about soccer?
What I love most about soccer or any kind of sport is that it teaches discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership. Soccer is more than just a game. It brings people together and challenges you physically and mentally. I also enjoy the constant opportunity to improve and push myself to become better everyday.

How do you channel your competitive spirit from organized sports into your own workouts?
Playing soccer  taught me that there is always room to improve. These days, I don't compare myself to other people in the gym. Instead I focus on being better everyday, whether that's improving my strength, endurance, body composition, or overall performance. Having an athletic background also helps me stay consistent, even on days when motivation isn't high.

How has your background as an athlete helped you connect with your Personal Training clients?
It helps me understand the commitment, challenges, and mindset required to reach goals. I know what it feels like to work through obstacles, stay consistent, and trust the process. Because of that I can relate to my clients and support them through their own fitness journeys while keeping them motivated and holding them accountable.

What’s something someone might not realize until they start working with a Personal Trainer?
Many people think personal training is only about workouts, but it's much more than that. A personal trainer provides guidance, accountability, education, motivation, and a plan tailored to each individual's goals. Having someone in your corner can make a huge difference in building confidence and achieving long term results.

How do you feel about NYC being a host city for the World Cup?
I believe it's great for soccer and for the city. The World Cup is one of the biggest events in the world. As someone who grew up playing soccer, it's exciting to see the sport getting attention in the United States.

Is there anything that you hope the World Cup being in the States does for the sport of soccer and its fans?
I hope it inspires more kids to get into soccer and helps the sport continue to grow in the United States. For fans, I think it will create unforgettable experiences and bring people from different backgrounds together through a shared love of the game.
